When the Olsons Come to Town...

Our dear friends Cody and Chelsea came to visit us for the Labor Day weekend.  We were so excited to have them here, but honestly they have a traveling reputation!  Cody has been to visit before and the thing about it is that he seems to have bad weather luck.  Each year it has been horrible weather wise and this year was no different.  Sever and I failed to tell Cody and Chelsea about the anticipated Gale Force warning (winds 40 mph+)... we had planned a great hiking and fishing trip and the weather was not going to get in the way!

We hiked into a lake and by hiked I mean participated in the Iron Man 5000.  The trail was muddy and steep, we decided that it would be a smart choice to pack all our gear in by hand instead of using the boat...quickly turned into a bad choice on our part.  When we finally arrived at the lake we had a great time fishing.  The guys caught many 16 inch + Cutthroat trout.

We put Cody and Chelsea on the plane just in time as it started to blow 60 mph a few hours after their departure.

Here are a few pictures from our great adventure!  (sorry the captions look weird, I can't seem to fix them)

"Do we really have to go home?"

Yes, we BACKPACKED with this much gear...amateurs!

The sign was misleading...it was hardly a TRAIL!

Thanks Cody and Chelsea for making the trek to Alaska, we had a great weekend!  Here's to many more Alaskan adventures together!

* Photography disclaimer, these pictures were all taken with my point and shoot and are SOOC (straight out of the camera)...I left my nice camera at home due to the weather.

Numero Uno!

Today is our first wedding anniversary, the great bambino of anniversary's! We have survived, and really I mean that, our first year of marriage.  Any other year it would be no big deal, tack on another number and let's move on... this year was a CrAzY year... and we survived.

We got married and went on a camping trip as our honeymoon a few days later.  Shortly after our return from camping Sever got on a plane and headed back to Alaska.  A few weeks later with one day notice I picked Sever up from the Seattle airport and we drove north to Alaska.  We then bought a lot where we planned to build a house.  After a few months of lot prep we began home construction on February 1st.  Just last week we moved into our home.  Whew...that was the short hand version of our year.  So with this anniversary really we just wanted to stay home (now that we have one) and veg.  Well, both of us knew that if we stayed home we would wind up working on the house all weekend... so we packed up the camping gear and headed north for the weekend.

Here are a few (or 30) pictures of our adventure!

How 'bout that ride in, Moser?  It was a little rough!

For some reason we needed a lot of rope?!

 SE rain, all weekend!

Most people have a pot puller around here...not us.  Really, I only pulled 2 pots, Sever was the work horse... it's hard work!

You want me to do what to these cute things?!

All in the name of love, shrimp shucking!

  Cabin view, not bad.

Making dinner, jambalaya!

"I guess that's why they call them JUMBO shrimp"

Time to reel it in for the weekend.
